The History of the Apple Blossom Bike Tour | Rotary Club of La Crescent

Rotary is the first service organization, composed of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Rotary Club of La Crescent celebrated its 40th year in 2022.  The club has a long history of humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs that touch people lives in our local community.

In 1985 the fear of Polio in over 125 countries was endemic.  Rotary International began PolioPlus, a multimillion dollar initiative to immunize all the world’s children.  In the last 25 years, Rotary has been able to contribute nearly $800 million to make the world polio free.  It is estimated that five million children are walking today that would not be without the vaccine.  Now, only three countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria remain endemic.

Old Hickory Park:  one of the more popular projects of the club, La Crescent Rotarians provided playground equipment for a handicapped accessible park on the north side of La Crescent.  Donations of many individuals and businesses helped us to reach our $100,000 goal.

Locally, the club has supported a YOUTH EXCHANGE student for 25 years, offering opportunities for young people to meet peers from other countries and to experience their cultures.  This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
